Wire it before you move in
The weeks between handover and moving furniture in are the cheapest this property will ever be to wire. Cameras, an intercom, a smart home bus and the network all go in on one visit, in the walls, with nothing on show. Once the family is in, every one of those becomes a surface-mounted compromise.
A handover snag list is not a security survey
The developer hands over a house that meets its own specification, which rarely includes anything beyond a doorbell and a few power points. What is actually there is worth establishing before buying equipment, and that is what the free survey is for.
Half-built neighbours
A cluster still under construction next door means contractor traffic, open plots and no fence line yet. A system specified for the finished community is the right one to install, but the first year is when it gets used.
Worth knowing
If the house is still with the developer or the fit-out contractor, bring us in while the ceilings are open. It is the single biggest saving available on a job of this kind, and it expires at handover.
