Entrances, not flats
The useful cameras cover the building door, the lobby, the lift and the bin store — the places everybody passes. A camera inside a corridor that only serves four flats raises more objections than it solves.
Who is allowed to install
In a shared building the owners' association or the building manager decides what may be fitted in common areas, and a camera put up without that is one that comes down again. Establishing permission is part of the survey, not an afterthought.
Parking and the bicycle store
Open parking and shared stores are where things actually go missing here. Covering them means lighting and a camera that reads a plate or a face at the distance involved, not a camera pointed at a car park in general.
Worth knowing
For anything in a common area, we will ask who gives permission before we quote. It saves a system being installed twice, and it is usually the owners' association rather than the person who called us.
